FOR AND TO

Veja abaixo alguns exemplos onde a preposição TO deve ser usada:

Propósito/objetivo; antes de verbo no infinitivo

He traveled to see his girlfriend. (Ele viajou para ver a namorada.)

Ir para um lugar; deslocamento

I will go to Italy next month. (Vou para a Itália no mês que vem.)

Entregar algo a alguém

She gave the first slice of cake to him. (Ela deu o primeiro pedaço de bolo para ele.)

Desejar algo a alguém

Happy birthday to you. (Feliz aniversário.)

Indicar direção

We’re still far from the beach. It’s to the South. (Ainda estamos longe da praia. Ela fica para o sul)

Início – fim de período

I study French from 9 am to 11 am. (Estudei francês das 9 às 11 da manhã)

Comparação/Preferência

He prefers dancing to singing. (Ele prefere dançar a cantar).

Distância entre dois pontos

It’s about 2 blocks from the university to her house. (São mais ou menos dois blocos da universidade até a casa dela)

Quando usar for

Antes de verbos no Present Continuous Tense (-ing)

She thank me for helping her with the homerwork. (Ela me agradeceu por ajudá-la com o trabalho de casa.)

Ajuda

I cleaned the house for you. (Limpei a casa para você.)

Benefício

Eating vegetables is very good for you. (Comer legumes é muito bom para você.)

Duração de algo

I studied French for three years. (Estudei francês por três anos.)

Propósito/objetivo; antes de substantivo

This area is for employees only. (Esta área é apenas para funcionários.)

Marcação de compromisso

The conference is set for next week. (A conferência está marcada para a próxima semana.)
