What is a phrasal verb? A phrasal verb is a group of words that functions as a verb and is made up of a verb plus a preposition, an adverb, or both. They are important in English. Here are 3 phrasal verbs that you may already know:

Lay down - Colocar algo sobre uma superfície.

Line up - Formar uma fila.  Line up for lunch. 

 Hold on - Esperar por um curto período de tempo. Hold on, please. 

Mess up - Bagunçar; estragar tudo em uma situação.

Screw up- Cometer um erro, fazer "uma cagada", estragar tudo em uma situação. Sinônimo de "to mess up", mas mais vulgar.

Set up - Organizar uma atividade ou evento. Também pode significar "configurar" ou "montar" algo; ou ainda "armar uma armadilha" para alguém.

Settle down - Começar a viver uma vida estável e de rotina, sossegar.

Stand for - Apoiar uma ideia, crença, etc.

Throw away - Jogar fora.

Throw up - Vomitar. - I threw up yesterday. 

Try on - Experimentar uma peça de roupa.

I had to go through that experience to learn the lesson.

Hurry up- Apressar-se. - Hurry up, girls. 

Watch out - Manter-se alerta, tomar cuidado.
